Mathew Thomas
Based in Bath, UK, Couscouskid is the alter ego of emerging artist/illustrator Mathew Thomas. Couscouskid's images lie somewhere between the cutting edge of contemporary illustration and the tempting nipple of naive. Impossible to pigeonhole, his dreamlike and innocent style leads viewers from the childlike leaves they cling to into a deeper and darker space — a place where fantasy and fairytale doodles combine with intrigue, mystery, and sex. At first glance, hints of '60s abandon dominate his work, but closer inspection reveals a 21st-century humor and physical freedom among the sublime and ridiculous forms and characters.
Thomas lives surrounded by the outstanding Cotswold countryside with his wife and two children, and has been a graphic designer for over 12 years. He has worked for many clients along the way, including Jack Daniel's, Hewlett Packard, Coca-Cola, Malibu, Southern Comfort, the SciFi Channel, More magazine and Golden Wonder. For the last few years, he has been exploring, developing, and creating new illustration styles that embody and embrace beauty, fashion, nature, music, and above all, life.
